The Big O

The Big O

Let’s talk about sex

I am almost 20 years old. I’m someone who never ever really talked about sex or likes to talk about sex because I think it’s private. So I thought. I’ve realised I haven’t been talking about sex because it’s so frowned upon for girls to be talking about the deed openly.

We go to our sex Ed class at school and get taught about condoms and periods but brush past all the vital things like consent and you know how to Orgasm if you’re a female. I guess this is something everyone’s a little uncomfortable to talk about, but why? We all know how guys get it off because it’s pretty simple why do girls have to go without.

The scariest part about it all is that at almost 20 years old and I’m only just finding out what a G spot is. It was only a month ago I really knew where the clit was after asking some of my girl friends but now I’m introduced to this more bizarre idea that there’s more. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention in health class. But I went and did a google search and it was the first thing that popped up. I educated myself on the diagrams thanks Dr. Google. So apart from the internet why isn’t this commonly talked about. I’ve never heard my mum or sister talk about it. It’s rare that I would even engage in a conversation about sex in general to anyone.

I guess I’m more concerned than anything, I’m a female and should embrace my body and know every working function. I’m a little bit embarrassed that I didn’t even know this was a thing. Surely I’m not the only one? I know I’m young but I feel a bit ripped off like I’ve been missing out. Maybe if I didn’t lie all those times to protect boys egos while I lay back and count the dots on the ceiling while someone was pretty much pushing the dots into a calculator.

The female body shouldn’t be some impossible maths equation that doesn’t have an answer. Girls should get the same pleasure and beauty that comes out of sex than boys do. It’s unfair. I guess my message is let’s start talking about sex. I think we should feel comfortable and safe to talk about these things. I know I’m not alone and know that many of you probably found it uneasy to even get through this read but why? It’s natural after all and we all do it!
